Local performance “artist” Sean Joseph Patrick Carney has apparently decided recently that he gets to also be a writer. Go fuck yourself. It takes years of training and work to get to the level of a real, working writer – earning your MFA doesn’t mean shit. Take a look around the city and you’ll begin to wonder if perhaps there’s something in the water here. Because there are tons of people claiming to be arts writers, but last time that I checked, aside from Chas Fucking Bowie, I’m the only game in town.
Today I was the recipient of a massive group e-mail from Mr. Carney indicating that he’d completed another one of his projects that he fancies so clever. It claims that he’s taken Walter Benjamin’s “Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction” and translated it from English to American. The piece is debuting at IGLOO Gallery’s final exhibition tonight. While I’m always a fan of patriotism, this reeks of fucking bullshit. First of all, there’s not a single reason that one should EVER try to rehash anything by a filthy fucking Communist. Yes, Walter Benjamin was a Karl Marx fiend and, rumor has it, also a drug abuser. This recent project by Carney though doesn’t entirely surprise me. It’s pretty well known around Portland that he’s a complete Atheist and might even align himself with Nihilism.
I’ll be stopping by IGLOO Gallery tonight to give him a piece of my mind. Maybe the other artists in the show will create substantial, respectful works of art that will make up for this neo-Commie fag’s drivel. But I doubt it. The show’s also got noted hate-monger Matthew Green, anti-fucking-everything Patrick Rock, nobody-has-heard-of-me Ralph Pugay, we-went-to-the-Tate-and-now-we’re-smug Jason Traeger and Liam Drain, and isn’t-it-funny-when-women-swear Alicia McDade. Damien Gilley has curated a good show or two in his life. Rest assured, this will not be one of them.
Apparently you’re able to also download a digital copy of the book. Click here.
Here’s the info for the show. Bring some whiskey – you’re gonna need it try to look at all of this nonsense.
