My name is Tanner Dobson.
I’m a local celebrity living in Portland, OR where I spend my time navigating various forms of media to examine cultural and social trends in my city and beyond. Living in a place like Portland isn’t particularly easy when you identify as a Political Conservative and are proud to be a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ. But despite the hurdles over which I’ve had to jump, I’m proud to say that I’ve never backed down from the tough fight or changed my beliefs just to fit in. Recently, I’ve been trying my hand at art criticism, focusing on exhibitions at institutions in and around Portland. I hope that you find my observations insightful and poignant; I know I do. YES! Finally someone like me, I am also an artist….born and raised in Washington, fortunately I grew up with both sides. A liberal mother and a conservative father. I chose to be conservative…but I can’t ever seem to find anyone else like me at my school, all my friends are liberals and when I tell them that I am conservative all of a sudden it’s like I just told them that I killed somebody. They don’t respect me for my political or religious beliefs (I’m also a Christian) and it’s incredibly frustrating. I’m just relieved to know that there are people like us out there and we’re not an endangered species.
